A Mighty Good Celebration is Coming!

Hi Umifriends! A mighty good celebration is coming this September and You might want to SAVE THE DATE!

Whew! another year had past and soon my little boy is turning FIVE. I was given a clear cut of what he wants for this year's celebration. No elaborate parties. No Jollibee mascots. Nothing fancy but Magic.

He wants it to be held at his school (this gave his dad a relief as this would cost him less =D) the party will be exclusive for the nursery class (we might include the kindergarten class as well) Number one on my list is the entertainment. I was told to bring a magician but this time I'll include a puppet show aside from ventriloquist act.

The cake and cupcakes will come from Mitchelle Sweet Kiss (I got it from Buyanihan deal at 50% discount) and Jollibee food will be served. Choco fondue and chocolate buffet will be taken cared of by- yours truly.

Invites, Tarpaulin, Banner, Venue decors/balloons, Photo coverage are all DIY.

I bet it's going to be an Umirrific fun!

And I Kept Mum About It

This is the time of the year when I get too much affected not because this is the same time when you left the world and join God in heaven. I have always had trouble in getting used to it as this happens every year - same month, same feelings, same emotions outpouring as I lament over it.

When I was growing up, I seldom talked about you maybe because I don't get to see you often since you we're working miles away from home. I never had a chance building a good relationship with you and before I knew it you left us behind. I didn't have a clear picture of what was happening during our troubled years I was taught to just accept it without understanding what really happened.

Years passed, and you came back left with nothing but us. I somehow rejected the thought of you coming back into our lives but a part of me is happy to see you around. I just didn't realize it soon enough, well, I guess because I never told you what I should have said. No, I never told you I just held it in...

Life seem to be a bit unfair because I haven't had much of you being around while we we're trying to put back what we have left behind when suddenly He took you away for the second time, but this time - forever. All my hopes of building that connection between us had vanished. I was blown away by the thought of you not coming back anymore. I was caught off guard. I wasn't ready after all.

I terribly missed you, Dad. I chose not to speak what I have in mind, I refuse to express what my heart feels and I refrain from talking about you. I want it to stay that way and kept mum about it.

Be A Good Model

God holds parents responsible to teach and train their children (Deuteronomy 6:1-2). The big picture of parenting is seen on how Jesus developed. "And Jesus kept increasing in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men." (Luke 5:52) Parents must therefore be intentional in helping their children develop mentally, physically, emotionally, socially and spiritually.

It has been said that parenting should begin as early as 20 years before child is born. this means that parenting preparation must begin now, whatever your civil status is. Moreover, biblical parenting is useful in helping us disciple others as a spiritual parent.

While parents naturally desire to influence their children positively, they often utilize wrong parenting styles. Some tend to be over controlling; some tend to be dictatorial; while others tend to be more passive with their children. Most would use position and power to gain control, intimidating the child with their size or voice to make them obey. Although this may work when the child is young, in the long run, this becomes self-defeating and ineffective. It is not enough to focus on the child's external behavior alone.

Effective parenting focuses on the heart. Samuel writes that what is important to the Lord is the heart (1 Samuel 16:7), for until the heart is changed, the person is not really transformed. Impacting the children's hearts brings about lasting change in behavior, and ultimately, in their lives.

Modeling is the most effective way to teach and influence our children, not lectures. Children watch their parents and copy them. Thus it follows that children will become who their parents are. This is why modeling is crucial. Parent's can't say one thing and do another. Lifestyle teaching is the way of heart parenting (Deuteronomy 6:6-9). It is teaching God's word to our children and modeling how to apply it consistently in everyday life.

What should parents model? Parents must model loving God with all our heart, soul and mind (Deuteronomy 6:4). We are to connect our children to God. When our children love the Lord, everything else will be easier to teach because they will be obedient. As parents, we should also model how to be a loving husband and a submissive wife. We should also model Christ-like character, integrity, honesty, love, obedience and submission to authority. Remember that character and values are caught, not taught.

To be able to model effectively, you need to spend time with those you want to influence. The more time you spend with them, the greater your influence is. Are you putting a high premium on your time with your family? Or are they merely getting left-over time and energy?

Whether married or single, we are to be good models at home. In 1 Timothy 4:12, it says, "Let no one look down on your youthfulness, but rather in speech, conduct, love, faith and purity, show yourself an example of those who believe." Being young of age is not an excuse to being a godly model in the family.

We need to ask ourselves, "What do I want my child to become?" and then be that ourselves. As a parent, are you living your life in such a way that you would be able to confidently tell your children, "Be imitators of me, just as I also am of Christ"? (1 Corinthians 11:1) Be a good model, because your children will become who you are today.

Sleepless Nights Perfect Match

This topic has been long over due but I guess it's better late than never. Countless efforts in finding the right vitamins for my little boy has become too tiring for we never saw the results of the supposedly "health benefits" as each of them claims to possess. My son has always been awake at night and sleeps during the day for many months now since he was three. I tried many ways to keep him awake the whole day and put him to bed at night but most of the time didn't worked. I felt hopeless and tired, I'm too tired of staying awake at night to keep him company. He don't just play the whole night but he often eats at dawn! It makes me go crazy! My little boy is as hyper as ever! and so is hard to feed...

I even brought him to a new pedia to get a different strategy on how to make him eat and sleep and this is what he gave me: Appebon to be taken for 2 months. On the first few weeks it kept him busy eating all the time but, still never sleeps at night (but he usually take 1-3 hrs nap) and I noticed his eating habits drops again after several weeks. Then, I went back to his pedia and was given a different vitamins - Mosegor Vita Syrup! again to be taken for 2 months. So I went to the drug store to buy a bottle of the said vitamins and got shocked when I saw its price! a whooping Php716 for a bottle of 120ml. My goodness gracious this has to work!

I have seen a slight change since we shifted to Mosegor Vita Syrup. He now eats (but still has to play the run around) , noticed weight increase, he now sleeps at night (sometimes) but we are still working on it and hopefully we can correct his sleeping patterns before he go to school in June.

Well, I guess I have found a perfect match for those sleepless nights! =D

What's in it again?

I have been browsing the net the other night when I stumbled upon an ad about baby diapers and sign up their diaper CLUB to include me in their mailing list. I registered online and fill out my children's profile and there was a question about "my name was suggested by" and "what's the meaning of the name?" then it made me think, what's in it (baby name) again?
